It is common knowledge that today family traditions play a great role in people’s life. Some people think that family holidays positively affect its members uniting them, while others claim that traditions are not very helpful in strengthen family relationships.
In my opinion, family traditions help to overcome the generation gap. Firstly, holidays gather family members of different ages together and give them a chance to spend time with each other. When teens and adults celebrate events together, they communicate and cooperate with each other, greatly improving their relationships. Moreover, due to the family traditions, relatives can find same interests and hobbies. When teens and adults speak on different topics, listen to the stories about the past or present, they start to understand and respect each other.
However, my opponents’ ideas are different. They believe, that traditions do not help to cross the generation gap. It is more exciting for youngsters to hang out with their friends than to celebrate family events. They feel bored in an adult’s company and are not interested in dedicating their time to family traditions.
Nevertheless, I cannot agree with my opponents’ opinion for the reason that parents and their children can easily change the way they celebrate some events and make it amazing for both generations. Making their own tradition will positively influence the process of crossing generation gap, as well.
To sum up, family traditions make an integral part of human’s life. I do believe family customs benefit both young and old generations.
